Non-Needle Alternatives & Cupping
Auricular Therapy (Ear needle-less acupuncture) is a healing practice dating back to the third century wherein the practitioner uses needles at acupuncture points on the outer ear that correspond to specific parts of the human body. It is a form of alternative medicine based on the idea that the ear is a microsystem which reflects the entire body, represented on the auricle, the outer portion of the ear. Conditions affecting the physical, mental or emotional health of the patient are effectively treatable by non-invasive stimulation of the surface of the ear. Treatable condition is included addictions, mood disorders, obesity, pain, and musculoskeletal and central nervous system disorders. Using special adhesive dots, the practitioner attaches small herb seeds (vaccaria seed) to stimulate specific points on your outer ear. By pressing these ear seeds, you can stimulate your own acupuncture point for up to two weeks.
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy using moxa made from dried mugwort (Artemisia argyi). Suppliers usually age the mugwort and grind it up to a fluff; practitioners burn the fluff or process it further into a cigar-shaped stick. Practitioners use moxa to warm regions and meridian points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi. Some believe it can treat conditions associated with the “cold” or “yang deficiencies” in Chinese Medicine. It is claimed that moxibustion militates against cold and dampness in the body, and can serve to turn breech babies. We often use smokeless moxa for pediatric patients to calm their emotions and stimulate the circulation.
Cupping Therapy involves placing heated or vacuumed cups over the skin to encourage blood flow and ease stress, aches and pains. It stimulates flow of blood, Qi and body fluids, such as lymph, which circulates around the body tissues, to the affected area. Oriental medicine states pain is due to stagnation of these systems. This stagnation can be a result of injury or stress. Cupping has been practiced for thousands of years for the treatment of disease and pain. Its use includes relieving pain in the muscles, especially back pain from stiffness or injury, and clearing congestion in the chest, which can occur with cold.
Rapid Release Therapy (RRT) is a revolutionary breakthrough in therapeutic patching mechanism for wounds caused by injury, surgery, trauma or repetitive stress. This scar tissue is made from collagen just like our skin but without blood supply it dries out, constricts and de-vitalizes. Scar tissue fastened to tissues not normally connected, is called an adhesion. Adhesions can cause pain, numbness or limit range of motion. RRT was designed from the ground up to target scar tissue adhesions with a specific frequency. In addition, this frequency is in a range that is known to relax muscle guarding or spasms. This lightweight, maneuverable Targeted High Speed Vibration device is unique and in its own class.
